BERWYN HEIGHTS POLICE DEPARTMENT

BASEBALL CARD

HISTORY

With the hiring of Chief Patrick A Murphy in 1999, the Berwyn Heights Police Department looked into additional ways to increase our public relations presence.  One method the new chief came up, with was to hand out agency "trading cards," similar to the baseball cards that were packaged with bubble gum many years ago.  Back in the "good 'ol days," kids would puchase bubble gum in hopes of getting a baseball card of a player they didn't already have in their collection.  If it was a duplicate, they would trade it to a friend for a card they didn't already have.  The theory is the same with the police department trading cards.  Although the police trading cards have nothing to do with baseball, they are frequently referred to as "Baseball Cards," and are still traded by kids.  Police departments everywhere have the cards printed, and kids often strive to have the "best collection around."  The Berwyn Heights Police Department started giving out trading cards in 2001, and has been doing so ever since.  The most current as well as the past cards are shown here.
