The Criminal Investigations Division of the Berwyn Heights Police Department is lead by Detective Sergeant Ken K. Antolik. He is the primary investigating Officer for all crimes committed within the jurisdiction of Berwyn Heights, with the exception of Murder, 1st Degree Rape and Business Establishment Armed Robberies. In these cases, a Berwyn Heights patrol officer handles the initial crime report, and Detective Antolik functions as the secondary investigator along with the Prince George's County Police Department Investigative Section, who act as the lead investigating agency, as per a "Memorandum of Understanding" between the two departments.
The
Bewyn Heights Police Department's C.I.D. also handles any
"departmental internal investigations,"
and
to a certain degree, some "civil" cases, particularly
those dealing with Bad or Fraudulent Checks.
Like
most agencies, the Berwyn Heights Police Department's C.I.D. has
recently seen a huge increase in
Credit
Card Fraud and Identity theft , with many of those cases originating
from unauthorized charges place over the internet.
With
an extremely
high closure rate for fraud cases, Detective Sergeant Antolik
was asked to join the
United
States Secret Service Joint
Task Force as a Fraud Investigator. Having joined the federal
task force, Detective Antolik now investigates fraud cases
originating anywhere in the Washington-Metropolitan region.
Note
- If you find that you have been a victim of internet or other
credit card fraud, notify your bank or credit card issuer
immediately.
Most credit card companies will not hold the card owner responsible
for the bulk of the authorized charges
if
notification is made in a timely manner. Always notify the
CREDIT CARD ISSUER FIRST! Following that, there is no
need
to file a police report unless instructed
to do so by your financial institution.
