The Berwyn Heights, Maryland Police Department is accepting applications for an experienced police officer. MARYLAND POLICE TRAINING COMMISSION CERTIFICATION IS REQUIRED. No one will be considered without MPTC certification. Must have a valid driver's license and a HS diploma or GED. Must pass a background investigation, truth verification test, psychological screening, and drug testing and physical.
Experienced officers or those near retirement and seeking a second career are encouraged to apply. Starting base salary range as of 7/1/08 is $40,789.32 to $55,109.27, including holiday pay. Benefits include paid overtime, shift differential, clothing allowance, and cell phone allowance. The agency offers a take home car program with mobile data terminals. Health insurance, vision, prescription, dental, life insurance, and MD State Retirement are provided. There is a $2,000 annual opt out fee paid to those with their own health insurance, and locality pay of $200 per month will be paid to those who live within 5 miles of the town upon achieving solo patrol status.
Berwyn Heights is a small, quiet community in Prince Georges County near the University of Maryland where community policing is practiced.
