Streaming giant Spotify considers crypto payments

Does Spotify suggest a crypto-payment function in the near future?

Spotify, one of the world’s largest music streaming providers, is looking for professionals with crypto experience.

According to a recent job advertisement, the company is looking for a deputy Bitcoin Pro director to join the Payment Strategy and Innovation department. According to an announcement on LinkedIn, the new vacancy was published on Wednesday.

The candidate will play a key role in defining and implementing Spotify’s payment strategy. The company’s involvement in Facebook’s recently renamed Diem cryptoproject will also be encouraged. This position will focus on digital assets and the crypto industry as a whole, including digital central bank currencies (CBDCs). The job advertisement also states

„You will help us move forward with new opportunities and innovation in the emerging ecosystem of distributed ledger technology, block chain, crypto currencies, stablecoins, CBDCs and other digital assets“.
It is further stated that the candidate will work in Spotify’s London or Stockholm office. He would therefore need to be prepared to travel frequently between the two offices and other company locations.

Cointelegraph asked Spotify for comments but received no reply by the deadline.

Spotify is one of the founding members of the Libra Foundation, which was officially established in Geneva in October 2019. Unlike PayPal and MasterCard, Spotify is one of the companies that have not abandoned Facebook’s crypto project due to increased regulatory control worldwide.
